Police are looking for a gunman who pulled up in a car and opened fire on a man in a North Long Beach neighborhood early Tuesday morning, leaving him wounded, according to authorities.

Police said the shooting happened around 6:30 a.m. in the 100 block of West 48th Street, which is just west of Long Beach Boulevard.

“The preliminary investigation indicated the suspect pulled up in a vehicle and fired rounds at the victim who was getting into his vehicle,” Long Beach police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt said.

The gunfire hit the victim in the lower body, according to Pratt. Paramedics took him to a local hospital where he’s expected to survive, she said.

There wasn’t any description of the shooter or information on a possible motive immediately available, police said.

They asked anyone with information to call detectives at 562-570-7370. Anyone who wants to remain anonymous can send tips to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS or visiting lacrimestoppers.org.
