Police say a 16-year-old driver struck and seriously injured a 12-year-old boy who was crossing the street this morning outside of Poly High School.
The crash happened at about 8:16 a.m. on Atlantic Avenue near 15th Street, according to Long Beach police.
A teenage driver lost control of a car while trying to steer around a stopped vehicle and struck the boy who was attempting to cross the street, police said.
The victim was taken to a hospital for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
Police said officers responded to the scene and detained the teenage driver, who they alleged was driving without a license. The driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.
The driver’s name was withheld because he is a minor.
