A man was injured when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing a Long Beach street, and the driver fled the scene, authorities said today.

The hit-and-run crash was reported at about 6:25 p.m. Thursday on Pacific Coast Highway at Cherry Avenue, according to Long Beach police Lt. Michael Deprete.

The pedestrian suffered non-life-threatening injuries to his upper and lower body and had stable vital signs when paramedics took him to a hospital, Deprete said.

Pacific Coast Highway was closed between Cherry and Gardenia avenues for about 30 minutes for a police investigation, he said.

There was no immediate information available on the vehicle that struck the man or its driver.
