Long Beach police say they’ll run a DUI checkpoint tonight, June 28, from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. somewhere in the western portion of the city.

Police did not reveal the exact location but said it had been chosen based on data about DUI crashes.

The goal of the checkpoint is to deter impaired drivers from getting on the road, police said.

“The LBPD reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol,” the department said in a statement. “Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational marijuana are legal, driving under the influence of marijuana is illegal.”

A DUI can result in a suspended license and $13,500 in fines and penalties.
