Saturday’s DUI patrol throughout Long Beach yielded two DUI arrests and 12 traffic citations for unsafe driving, the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) announced Monday.

According to a release, the officers patrolled Long Beach between 7:00PM and 3:00AM on Saturday, July 18 and conducted 35 enforcement stops, with nine Standardized Field Sobriety tests.

The tests resulted in two DUI arrests, two impounded vehicles in conjunction with the DUI arrests, in addition to the 12 traffic citations. 

In 2012, LBPD statistics showed an increase in drunk driving deaths, after falling for five straight years. In Long Beach, nine deaths and 315 injury crashes have taken place in the past three years. Driving under this influence and causing a fatality has a $1.4 million impact, an injury of $70,000 and property damages nearing $9,000, the release said.
