An ex-con was charged today with murder and other counts stemming from the shooting death of a man in Long Beach about 1 1/2 months ago.

Stanley Shaw, 42, from the Central Valley city of Turlock, is set to be arraigned April 4 on one felony count each of murder for the Jan. 30 killing of Charles Ogletree, dissuading a witness by force or threat involving another person and possession of a firearm by a felon.

The criminal complaint alleges that Shaw was convicted in 2000 of robbery.

He was arrested by Long Beach Police Department homicide detectives—with the assistance of the Stanislaus County Special Investigations Unit—during a traffic stop last Thursday in Turlock, according to Long Beach police.

Ogletree, 42, of Long Beach, was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper and lower body at a residence in the 200 block of Atlantic Avenue on Jan. 30.

Police said the motive for the killing was still under investigation, but that detectives believe the two men knew each other and were involved in a verbal dispute that escalated into a shooting.

At the scene of the shooting, detectives discovered multiple bullets in the apartment bedroom, along with cartridge cases in the living room, search warrant records show. Several shot glasses, a tequila bottle, a glass pipe and cell phones were also taken in as evidence, records show.

When police served search warrants in Pacoima and Turlock, they found evidence linking Shaw to the shooting, according to police.
