Police on Monday were looking for the person or persons responsible for a fatal stabbing of a man in Central Long Beach Sunday night.
The stabbing occurred around 8:15PM in the 1900 block of Locust Ave. said Long Beach police spokeswoman Nancy Pratt, who added that detectives were investigating the case as gang-related.
“We responded to a fight call,” Pratt said. “Officers located a male adult victim who had possibly been stabbed. Victim was transported to a local hospital and pronounced deceased.”
The victim has been identified as 51-year-old Anthony Ramirez and reports indicate that he may have been involved in a physical fight with a group of subjects prior to being stabbed. The suspect or suspects fled the scene and had not been captured as of Monday afternoon.
This is the second possibly gang-related fatality to happen in the area this year. Across one 24-hour period in late March, one man was killed and three others wounded in two separate shootings in the 200 block of Hill St. and the 2100 block of Earl St. Both of the March incidents were investigated as gang related.
Pratt asked anyone with information to contact Long Beach homicide detectives at (562) 570-7244.
