The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) is seeking the public’s help to locate suspects believed to be involved in the July 2014 gang-related murder of Kayon Dafney.

The incident occurred on July 4 at about 12:33PM, when officers were dispatched to a call reporting shots fired near the 6500 block of Gardenia Avenue in North Long Beach. Upon arrival, they discovered 24-year-old Dafney in an alley in the 1900 block of East 65th Street. Dafney sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

LBPD homicide detectives recently received tips about a white two-door convertible seen in the area around the time of the incident.

After reviewing surveillance footage from the area of the murder, detectives were successful in locating two vehicles that matched the description. Several witnesses have come forward after snapshots of the vehicles were disseminated through the media.

One witness described several subjects who were seen in vehicles at the crime scene around the time the murder occurred.

The descriptions are as follows, from left to right in the image above:

Sketch #1 – Male, Black, mid 20’s, 5’5” – 5’8”, 155-170 pounds, wearing a white or gray colored t-shirt, seen exiting the passenger side of a small white 2-door convertible

Sketch #2 – Male, Black, late 40’s – early 50’s, dark skinned, driving a small white 2-door convertible

Sketch #3 – Male, Black, 20’s, thin-faced, dark skinned wearing an unknown colored t-shirt

Sketch #4 – Male, Black, early 20’s, light skinned, possible goatee and curly hair

These tips have also led detectives to believe Dafney’s murder and the June 27, 2014 murder of Marcel Johns are related.

Anyone with information regarding either murder is urged to contact Long Beach Homicide Detectives Teryl Hubert, Scott Lasch or Michael Hubbard at (562) 570-7244.
