The Long Beach Police Department announced today that officers would be out in force Thursday and Friday looking for people driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Officers will be performing what are called “saturation patrols” citywide in areas with high frequencies of DUI collisions or arrests, according to the LBPD.

Ten people died last year in Long Beach in the 140 DUI crashes the LBPD investigated. An additional 150 people were injured in these crashes, according to the LBPD.

DUI’s don’t just involve alcohol, you can get one for driving under the influence of marijuana or prescription drugs, the department said in a news release.

“Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with DUI can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to be upwards of $13,500,” the release said. “This includes fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension and other expenses, not to mention possible jail time.”
