A Long Beach man was arrested Sunday for allegedly attempting to kidnap his son from a relative’s home in Seal Beach, authorities said.

Police responded to a report of a family disturbance at 7:10AM at a home on the 13000 block of Alderwood Lane, Seal Beach Police Department (SBPD) Sgt. Michael Henderson said.

David Pitts of Long Beach had allegedly entered the residence in an attempt to kidnap the 7-year-old boy, who lives with his grandmother, said Henderson.

The father fled the scene but was found nearby and arrested.

Pitt had entered the residence earlier that morning and took the boy against his will, according to investigators. Security guards at Leisure World, a senior retirement community, spotted the pair walking and the child was returned to his grandmother unharmed, said Henderson.

Police were called after Pitts went back a few hours later and tried to take his son again, officials said.

Pitts was booked on suspicion of child abduction, vandalism and burglary.

Police urged anyone with information about the crime to call Detective Pete Krok at 562.799.4100 ext. 1110.
