A 22-year-old man was arrested Tuesday evening in the Houghton Park neighborhood on suspicion of gun and drug possession after police say he fled from the scene of a shooting where he may have been the target.

A Long Beach Police Department spokesperson said that officers stopped Jesus Manuel Lopez, a resident of Long Beach, after he collided with another vehicle and drove away after his car was shot at.

The original report of shots fired was about one mile west near the area of Elm Avenue and South Street, police said.

Officers found bullet casings at the scene and confirmed that Lopez was near Elm and South when another vehicle pulled up nearby and fired at Lopez’s car.

However, when officers stopped Lopez near 64th Street and Orange Avenue after he collided with another car, they found a firearm and an undisclosed controlled substance and arrested him on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle and for drug possession. His bail was set at $35,000, according to police.

The spokesperson said that no one was injured in the shooting or the traffic accident that happened when Lopez fled the scene of the shooting. The LBPD currently has no information on the suspect or a motive for the shooting.
