A 24-year-old Long Beach man was charged with murder Tuesday in connection with the fatal stabbing of a homeless man on the Fourth of July.
Long Beach police arrested Norman Matthew Perdon on Friday, July 10, on the 1400 block of Walnut Avenue, after a tip from the public identifying Perdon as a potential suspect, according to a Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) release.
Authorities believe Perdon and 38-year-old Allen Estes of Long Beach were former roommates and that the motive for the alleged murder is related to an ongoing dispute.
Estes, who police believe was homeless at the time of his death, was found fatally stabbed by officers responding to an unresponsive subject call at 5:27AM near East Anaheim Street and Dawson Avenue on the Fourth of July.
LBPD detectives presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday morning, officials said.
The office filed murder and weapons charges against Perdon, who is being held at the Long Beach Jail on $1,020,000 bail.
