Long Beach police issued 15 citations to motorists for operating a vehicle while unlicensed or with a suspended or revoked license, the department announced Sunday.

The DUI checkpoint was held between 6 p.m. Friday and 2 a.m. Saturday at Santa Fe Avenue and 21st Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

A total of 535 vehicles passed through the checkpoint and 208 drivers were screened, police said.

No drivers were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Checkpoints like this one are intended to discourage people from getting behind the wheel while drunk or high.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
