Police say they’re investigating a report of a man attempting to kidnap a girl near Long Beach’s Washington neighborhood Wednesday morning.
Few details about the incident were immediately available as of Wednesday afternoon, but police said the attempted kidnapping happened at around 8 a.m. in the area of 12th Street and Park Court.
Long Beach Unified School District spokesperson Elvia Cano said the child was walking to Washington Middle School when the attempted kidnapping occurred.
The student was able to get to school safely and report the crime to administrators, she said.
Police did not say how the man attempted to kidnap the girl but said he fled in an unknown direction before officers arrived.
“At this time, officers are working to identify and locate the suspect,” the LBPD said in an email.
The suspect was described by authorities as a man driving a black sedan.
Earlier this year, a man was arrested on suspicion of trying to kidnap a girl walking near Washington Middle School.
