A 58-year-old Long Beach man is being held on $1 million bail after police say he almost hit a detective with his car.

Police spokeswoman Shaunna Dandoy said officers were looking into a complaint about drugs at a house near Woodruff Avenue and Los Coyotes Diagonal on Wednesday. When they attempted to make contact with the suspect, Paul Motshagen, he tried to flee, Dandoy said.

“While attempting to flee the scene, Motshagen almost struck the detective with his car,” Dandoy said.

Police found Motshagen later that day and booked him on suspicion of attempted murder.

Police said they were unable to provide any more details.
