A Long Beach man was arrested Friday night after police say he stabbed a woman near the city’s Rose Park neighborhood.

The 36-year-old suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of inflicting corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant, according to the Long Beach Police Department. He was also booked on one count of petty theft regarding a previous warrant, police said. His bail was set at $57,000.

The attack occurred at around 11:27 p.m. in the 1000 block of Obispo Avenue, police said.

When officers arrived, they found a woman with a stab wound to the upper body, according to the LBPD. Police say the woman had been in an argument with her partner, which escalated to a stabbing.

Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported the woman to a local hospital where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said. The investigation is ongoing.
