Police have arrested a Long Beach man on suspicion of murder after the death of his 6-month-old son in June, officials said.

Paramedics were initially called to a home on the 6800 block of Harbor Avenue in North Long Beach for the baby, who was in full arrest, at about 9:50 p.m. on June 10. Paramedics rushed him to a local hospital and child abuse detectives responded to investigate “due to the suspicious circumstances,” police said.

The baby, identified as Zeke Soriano, died two days later.

An investigation by the coroner’s office revealed Zeke had suffered “non-accidental trauma at hands of another” on his upper body, police said. Homicide detectives started investigating his death as a murder. They arrested the baby’s father, 26-year-old Long Beach man Manuel Torres, on suspicion of murder. He is being held in jail on a $2 million bail.

Detectives will present the case to the county district attorney’s office later this week for filing consideration.

Police ask that anyone with information about this incident to call detectives Sean Magee, Adrian Garcia or Nikki Alexander at 562-570-7244. Anyone wishing to remain anonymous may call 1-800-222-8477, or text TIPLA plus your tip to 274637 (CRIMES), or visit www.lacrimestoppers.org.
