A man and a young child were struck by gunfire in North Long Beach Monday night, police said. The shooting occurred about 6:50PM in the 7000 block of Orange Ave. and may also be gang-related. ABC7 also reported that the adult victim was walking his bicycles at the time of the shooting, which was a drive-by.

According to Sgt. Aaron Eaton of the Long Beach Police Department, the child is a male under the age of ten, though it is possible that the child is as young as five years old. He was playing at a nearby residence when the shooting occured and was not the target of the violence.

“We do believe that the child could be five years old, but we are checking with the child’s parents before we confirm that,” Eaton said.

After the shooting, both victims were transported to the hospital and are listed in stable condition. The suspects, who have yet to be apprehended, were described as fleeing the scene southbound on Orange Ave. in a light-colored vehicle.

Investigators were on scene late Monday night processing it for evidence.
