UPDATE | Long Beach police today identified a man who died from his injuries after he was shot last month by an unknown assailant.

Authorities said Long Beach resident Mercredi Khourn, 31, died a day after he was struck by gunfire on January 17 in the 600 block of East Burnett Street in the city’s Poly High neighborhood.

“The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived,” a release from the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) stated. “No further suspect description is available.”

Authorities have not yet determined a motive for the shooting.

The investigation remains ongoing.

PREVIOUSLY: Man Critically Wounded During Tuesday Night Shooting

1/18/17 at 12:03PM | Homicide detectives are investigating a shooting that left a man critically wounded Tuesday night in Long Beach, authorities said.

Officers responded to the shooting at 8:09PM on the 600 block of East Burnett Street. Upon arrival, they found a man struck by gunfire in his upper body, according to Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.

The victim was then transported to a local hospital where he is listed in critical condition.

“Due to the severity of the victim’s injuries, homicide detectives responded to the scene,” Pratt said.

Authorities do not have any suspect information at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
