A 62-year-old male Long Beach resident died Saturday when a 2012 Honda Accord struck him as he attempted to cross Willow Street, just east of Redondo Avenue, the Long Beach police announced Monday.

According to a release issued Monday afternoon, officers responded to the scene at 7:30PM, regarding a traffic collision involving the death of a male pedestrian.

The man was attempting to cross northbound Willow Street when the Accord, driven by a 47-year-old woman, hit him as it traveled East on Willow Street.

The police stated that witness reports show the man was crossing the road outside of a crosswalk, and against a red light and “wait” signal. The Honda had a green light, according to the independent witnesses.

The driver of the Honda was interviewed and released.

The identity of the male pedestrian is being withheld, pending notification of family members by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
