The motorcyclist was driving southbound on Atlantic Avenue, approaching 19th Street, when the driver of a 2014 Toyota Tundra pulled out in front of him, intending to make a left turn.
Police said the single-car crash happened around 7 p.m. Sunday.
The driver stopped and immediately tried to help the woman he’d hit as she crossed PCH outside of a crosswalk, police said.
“All I could do was hold him in my arms and tell him, ‘My baby, my baby,'” the boy’s father, Francisco Garate said Wednesday.
Police said the father and son were in a crosswalk with the right-of-way when the driver of a pickup truck failed to yield.
Bystanders at the scene rendered aid to the man before police and Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived to take over, the LBPD said.

The driver—who has since been arrested—hit the back of another vehicle, which ended up on its roof in a flood-control channel, according to police.
The 32-year-old rider lost control of his motorcycle on Studebaker Road, hit the center median and then collided with the concrete barrier over a portion of the Los Cerritos Channel, police said.
The traffic collision occurred around 6:04 a.m. Wednesday, April 13 in the area of Seventh Street and Pepper Tree Lane, the Long Beach Police Department said in a statement today.
