A man took himself to the hospital after being shot early this morning in West Long Beach, according to police.

The shooting was reported around 1 a.m. in the 3600 block of Santa Fe Avenue, according to Long Beach police Lt. Brian Fritz.

Officers responding to the shooting scene learned the victim drove himself to a hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his lower body, Fritz said.

The victim told police he’d been in his car when an unknown gunman approached. An argument started, and the gunman shot the victim and then fled in an unknown direction, police said.

The suspect was described only as a man, Fritz said.

The investigation into the shooting was ongoing, and no further information was immediately available.
