Long Beach police were investigating the shooting of a man this morning near the beach in Long Beach’s Belmont Shore.

Officers responded to a hospital at 12:44 a.m. and talked with the man who was undergoing treatment for a non-life-threatening wound to his lower body, said Long Beach police Lt. Dominick Scaccia.

The shooting reportedly occurred at midnight in a beach parking lot in the 5200 Block of East Ocean Boulevard, according to LBPD spokesman Richard Mejia.

The victim said he heard presumed gunfire coming from an unknown direction, said Mejia. When he realized he had been struck by gunfire, the victim self-transported to a local hospital, according to the LBPD.

The victim did not specify which beach parking lot he had been in when the shooting occurred, said Mejia. Officers were unable to locate a crime scene in the area described by the victim, according to police.

No other injuries were reported, and no suspect information is available, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
