Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a 23-year-old man who was standing near a residential complex in Rose Park at about 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
Police found the victim, identified as James Magee of Long Beach, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds in the common area of a residential complex in the 900 block of Obispo Avenue, officials said. Paramedics took him to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries.
“The preliminary investigation revealed Magee was standing near a residential complex when the suspect(s) approached and fired at Magee, then fled the area, possibly in an unknown color sedan,” police said.
They don’t yet know the motive for the investigation, but it’s being investigated as gang-related, police said. They are still searching for witnesses and evidence in the area.
This shooting happened at the same time as another shooting in the Washington neighborhood. Police said the two incidents are not believed to be related, but noted both are thought to be gang-related.
