Two teenage boys were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder early Thursday shortly after a 28-year-old man was found wounded by gunfire in the Washington neighborhood.

Police found the victim with gunshot wounds to his upper and lower body near the 1700 block of Locust Avenue, spokesman Brandon Fahey said. Paramedics took the victim to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The victim was unable to give any details of the shooting because of his injuries, but police were able to identify two suspects, Fahey said. After setting up a perimeter, they arrested a 15-year-old boy from Gardena and a 16-year-old from Hawthorne a few blocks away in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Pine Avenue.

Names of juveniles are typically not released.

The 15-year-old was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, participating in a criminal street gang, carrying a loaded firearm, providing a false identity to a peace officer and loitering in public after 10 p.m. The 16-year-old was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, participating in a criminal street gang and loitering in public after 10 p.m. They are both being held without bail.

This shooting happened at the same time as another shooting in the Rose Park neighborhood. Police said the two incidents are not believed to be related, but noted both are thought to be gang-related.
