Detectives are investigating after a man was found shot to death in an alley near Seventh Street and Cerritos Avenue in Long Beach, according to authorities.

Police said they were called to the scene of the shooting around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday. When officers arrived, they found a man who’d been shot in the upper body, LBPD spokeswoman Jennifer Arzola said.

Medics with the Long Beach Fire Department determined the man was dead and police called in homicide detectives, according to Arzola.

Although the incident is still under investigation, police said the victim and suspect were involved in some sort of altercation before the shooting happened. The suspect was only described as a man who fled the scene before officers arrived, according to police.

So far, police don’t have any more details on the suspect or motive, Arzola said.

They asked anyone with information to contact homicide detectives at 562-570-7244. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers.
