A man was hospitalized in critical condition Thursday night after being shot by another man during an argument in Long Beach’s Willmore neighborhood, according to authorities.

It’s not clear what prompted the argument, but police said the man was in the 1200 block of Chestnut Avenue, which is just south of Anaheim Street, when the other man shot him multiple times in the upper body.

The victim then fled to the 500 block of West Anaheim Street where someone called for police to help him, authorities said.

Officers arrived around 11 p.m. and helped the victim until Long Beach Fire personnel arrived, police said.

LBFD personnel relieved the officers at the scene and transported the man to a local hospital where he’s currently listed in critical but stable condition, police said. No other injuries were reported, they added.

No suspect information is available as he fled the scene before officers arrived, police said, adding that the investigation is ongoing.
