Detectives are investigating a shooting in the Poly neighborhood that left one man injured at 12:30 on Thursday afternoon.

After getting reports of an assault with a deadly weapon in the area of East 21st Street and Olive Avenue, police officers initially couldn’t find the victim, police spokeswoman Jennifer De Prez said.

As they investigated, they learned the victim took himself to a local hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his upper body. The department would not specify where the victim was shot.

It’s so far unclear what led up to the shooting other than the victim was driving in the area of 21st Street and Atlantic Avenue shortly before he was shot, De Prez said.

Officers haven’t been able to find a crime scene and the motive for the shooting is unknown.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact the LBPD non-emergency dispatch line at 562-435-6711.
