A man was hospitalized after he was struck during a shooting in Cambodia Town early Monday morning, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

Officers responded to the 2300 block of East 14th Street at 2:48AM today regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call, LBPD spokeswoman Delmy Hughes said.

The calling party said a family member had been shot, but did not have any further information, Hughes said. Arriving officers found the victim, identified as a black man, on 14th Street, just west of Junipero Avenue.

The victim was shot in his lower body and transported to a local hospital with a non-life threatening wound by paramedics.

The suspect reportedly fled westbound on 14th Street on foot and was described as a Hispanic man by the victim, according to Hughes.

Gang detectives were notified of the incident and the investigation remains ongoing.
