A pedestrian was killed after being run over Saturday night in North Long Beach after he was involved in an altercation with the driver, Long Beach police said.

The driver of the red sedan, identified as Sokhorn Hor, 29, of Long Beach, was later  arrested on suspicion of murder after colliding into a parked car in the Rose Park area, near 10th Street and Obispo Avenue, Nancy Pratt, police spokeswoman, said in a statement.

The incident began at 11 p.m. Saturday, when officers were dispatched to Market Street and Orange Avenue regarding a hit and run injury collision.

Officers learned the victim, identified as Victor Salvador Herrera, 40, of Long Beach, was walking in the area when he got into an argument Hor, police said.

“The argument continued and while the victim was standing in the center median area of the roadway, the suspect ran him over and fled westbound on Market Street,” the police statement said.

Herrera was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Shortly after, officers spotted a possibly drunk driver near Signal Hill, at Temple Avenue and Willow Street, and attempted to pull the driver over. The driver fled, and collided into a parked car about a mile away, police said.

Upon further investigation, it was determined this to be the same vehicle involved in the earlier hit and run, police said.

Hor was booked on suspicion of murder, and is being held at Long Beach City Jail on $2 million bail.
