Relatives on Monday identified the man killed in a car-to-car shooting on the 91 Freeway near Cerritos as 27-year-old Sam Ferguson of Cerritos.

Ferguson was studying to become a speech pathologist and worked with developmentally disabled children, relatives told ABC7.

The shooting was reported at 4:30 p.m. Friday, the California Highway Patrol said.

CHP Officer Chanelle Gonzalez told Fox11 when officers arrived, they found a man slumped over the wheel of the vehicle.

The victim was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange and was subsequently pronounced dead, the CHP said.

ABC7 reported the victim had been shot at least once in the chest.

No arrests have been made in connection with shooting. Anyone who witnessed what happened was asked to call CHP investigators at (323) 644-9550.
