Police say a 38-year-old Long Beach man was killed in a gang-related shooting in the Washington neighborhood last night.

Shortly before 9:05 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to reports of a shooting on Locust Avenue near 14th Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

When officers arrived, they found evidence of a crime scene and were notified that a man wounded by the gunfire had been taken by car to a local hospital, police said.

The victim, identified as 38-year-old Durell Shell, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Homicide detectives believe the shooting was gang-related, police said, but the circumstances leading up to the shooting were under investigation. There was no suspect information available.
