A 65-year-old man who was fatally struck by an SUV when he ran into lanes of traffic in Long Beach was identified by authorities today.

Francisco Fuentes of Long Beach died in the crash at about 8 p.m. Friday in the area of Del Amo Boulevard and Locust Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office.

A 2023 Hyundai Tucson was going west on Del Amo when Fuentes ran into the lanes of traffic and was struck by the SUV, according to the Long Beach Police Department.   Paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries. The driver of the SUV stayed at the crash scene and cooperated with police.

Police said speed, distracted driving and driving under the influence were not believed to be factors in the collision.
