A Los Angeles man pleaded not guilty today to murdering his 11-month-old son in Long Beach last month.

Jeremy Wade, 23, is charged with one count each of murder, assault on a child causing death and false imprisonment by violence, along with a misdemeanor count of battery on a spouse or girlfriend.

Wade was arrested Feb. 9 at the Scottish Inns Long Beach, in the 5400 block of Atlantic Avenue, police said. They went there around 7 a.m. that day in response to a call about a domestic violence incident.

When police arrived in the area, Wade’s girlfriend said he had allegedly assaulted her, and that he was asleep with their child in the motel, according to the LBPD.

Officers said they found Wade and an unresponsive infant inside a motel room. Police provided aid to the baby until the Long Beach Fire Department arrived to transport him to a nearby hospital where he died from his injuries, the LBPD said.

Homicide detectives subsequently “discovered evidence that Wade caused serious bodily injury” to the baby, which “resulted in his death,” police said.

The boy died of multiple blunt force traumatic injuries, according to records from the coroner’s office.

Wade has remained behind bars in lieu of $2.05 million bail.
