A man is expected to survive after he was shot in his lower body in the area of Pacific Coast Highway and Lime Avenue shortly before 1:30 a.m. Friday, authorities said.

Officers were first dispatched to Atlantic Avenue and Anaheim Street on a call of shots fired, but found no evidence of a shooting.

“While officers were still on the call, a local hospital contacted the Long Beach Police Department regarding a male victim with a gunshot wound to his lower body,” police spokesman Alvino Herrera said in an email.

The victim had transported himself to the hospital, Herrera said.

When officers contacted the victim, he told them the shooting was at Pacific Coast Highway and Lime Avenue, but could not describe the suspect or vehicle the suspect drove.

Police do not know what the motive is and the investigation is ongoing, they said.
