Long Beach police say they’ve arrested two people in connection to a Valentine’s Day shooting that left a man dead in his Wrigley area home.

The accused killer, 44-year-old Damion Castro, was roommates with the 36-year-old victim, Jamie Jones, according to police. The two got into an argument on Feb. 14, “which escalated into a shooting,” police said in a statement. They did not provide any information on what the argument was about.

Police rushed to the home in the 2200 block of Chestnut Avenue at around 2:30 a.m. and found Jones wounded. He later died at a hospital, according to the LBPD.

Detectives identified Castro as a suspect, and he was taken into custody Thursday in North Hollywood, police said.

He was booked into jail on suspicion of murder, prohibited possession of a firearm, prohibited possession of ammunition, and violating parole, according to LBPD. Castro also had a warrant out for his arrest, according to authorities, but police did not say what it was for.

Police said they also arrested a 44-year-old Cerritos resident named Danielle Mika Payne on suspicion of accessory to murder.

Castro is being held without bail while Payne’s bail was set at $50,000, police said.
