A man and a woman were walking near Martin Luther King Jr. Park in Long Beach Wednesday night when a gunman fired at them, police said.

The man and woman were in the 1800 block of Lemon Avenue around 9:15 p.m. when a car pulled up, LBPD spokeswoman Jennifer De Prez said.

“The suspect then exited the vehicle, discharged a firearm towards the victims, then fled the scene in the vehicle,” she said.

The gunshot hit the man in the lower body, police said. Medics took him to the hospital in stable condition, according to De Prez.

Police aren’t sure why the gunman attacked, De Prez said.

Detectives are still trying to track him down; a detailed description wasn’t immediately available. De Prez said he was driving a white four-door sedan.
