A Tuesday night shooting in North Long Beach left one man wounded and police searching for a suspect who fled the scene before officers arrived, according to authorities.

Long Beach Police Department spokesperson Richard Mejia said that officers were dispatched to the area of South Street and Linden Avenue around 8:45 p.m. for a report of gunshots. Officers found bullet casings at the scene and were later notified that a man was transported to a local hospital with a bullet wound to his upper body.

Police said that the man, who was taken to a local hospital by family members, was sitting in his vehicle in the area of South Street and Linden Avenue when another car approached and shot at the man’s vehicle.

Mejia said that the motive for the shooting is currently unknown and no suspect information is available.
