A man was escorted out of a Catholic church in Long Beach Sunday evening after he disrupted a service by shouting at parishioners, authorities said.

Officers were dispatched to Saint Cornelius Catholic Church on 5500 East Wardlow Road, on Sunday, December 13, at about 6:00PM regarding an unwelcome guest, according to Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) spokeswoman Nancy Pratt.

“When officers arrived, they learned a male subject had gone to the front of the church and disrupted the service by speaking out to the congregation,” Pratt said. “Two parishioners approached the subject and escorted him out.”

He left before officers arrived.

The man allegedly went to the pulpit at the end of Mass and shouted something along the lines of “this is not the way we worship the Lord,” according to a church employee who chose not to give her name.

Two choir members got a hold of the man and escorted him from the church, according to a parishioner who said others heard him say ‘’this is no way to celebrate and worship your God.’’

The employee said about 75 percent of congregants were gone at the time and the priest had left as well, but the microphone system was still on.

Authorities did not provide a description of the individual.

No additional information was available at this time. The Post will update this story as we learn more.
