Long Beach police officers were in the area of 17th Street and Long Beach Boulevard Wednesday night at about 10:05 p.m. when they were flagged down regarding a stabbing, according to LBPD spokesman Ivan Garcia.

Officers located a man with a stab wound in his upper body. Paramedics took the victim to a local hospital in stable condition, he said.

Garcia said a preliminary investigation found the stabbing happened in an apartment complex about a block away in the 300 block of East Esther Street. Officers went to the complex and the suspect, identified as 62-year-old Rick Brown of Long Beach, was found in his apartment and arrested without incident, police said.

Garcia said Brown was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder as well as outstanding warrants and is being held on $1,001,849 bail.

The reason for the stabbing is currently unknown and the investigation is ongoing.
