Police arrested a man who fled after stabbing someone at a gated condo complex near Cal State Long Beach Thursday morning, according to authorities.

Police said the attack happened at about 10:40 a.m. in the 6300 block of Riviera Circle in Bixby Hill off Seventh Street just east of the campus.

A 25-year-old from Paramount stabbed another man at the complex, prompting police and paramedics to rush to the scene, according to Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Arantxa Chavarria.

The two men know each other, but police were unable to immediately answer questions about how or what they were doing at the complex. Chavarria said she believed the two men were working at the complex but couldn’t confirm that information Thursday afternoon.

Officers quickly found the 25-year-old near Seventh Street and the 22 Freeway where they arrested him on suspicion of attempted murder, Chavarria. They also found a knife, she said.

Medics took the wounded man to a nearby hospital where he’s expected to survive, Chavarria said. The suspected attacker, identified as Victor Chavez, is being held in lieu of $1 million bail, police said.
