A man was hospitalized Thursday night after being attacked by three assailants near Long Beach Boulevard and 20th Street, Long Beach police said.

Police said the man was walking in the 2000 block of Long Beach Boulevard around 10:30 p.m. when he was suddenly assaulted by three men he didn’t know.

Then, at some point during the attack, the suspects used an unknown object to stab the man before they got into a car and drove away, police said.

Officers responded to the stabbing and found the man suffering from multiple stab wounds to the lower body, police said. Long Beach Fire Department personnel took him to a local hospital for treatment, police said, adding that his injuries were not life-threatening.

It’s not clear why the suspects attacked the man. No additional details or suspect descriptions were provided. The investigation is ongoing.
