Police say they arrested a 27-year-old man after an hours-long SWAT standoff at his North Long Beach home for displaying what turned out to be a replica handgun.
The incident began around 3:20 p.m. on Sunday, when a 911 caller reported seeing a person with a gun on East Louise Street near Elm Avenue, Long Beach police spokesperson Jordan McGinley wrote in an email.
When officers arrived, the man fled into his nearby home and refused to exit, McGinley wrote.
A SWAT team responded to the home and used pepper gel, “less-lethal munitions” and a K9 to take the man into custody after several hours, McGinley wrote.
When officers arrested the man, they found that he had a replica handgun, McGinley wrote.
He was taken to a hospital for medical clearance, then was booked for displaying an imitation firearm and obstructing a peace officer.
