Police say a man was wounded during a potentially gang-related shooting in West Long Beach yesterday.

The shooting happened shortly before 6:15 p.m. Monday near the intersection of 19th Street and Harbor Avenue, according to Long Beach police.

A man was driving in the area when he saw someone in the car behind him stop and get out of their vehicle, police said. When the victim got out of his vehicle, he was shot in the upper and lower body by an unknown number of shooters.

The wounded man was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries, which were not believed to be life-threatening, police said.

Investigators believe the shooting was gang-related but an exact motive for the shooting remains under investigation, police said. The LBPD defines “gang-related” as any crime committed “for the benefit of, at the direction of or in association with any criminal street gang.”

Suspect descriptions were not immediately available.
