Authorities are investigating after a 77-year-old woman died shortly after she crashed into an empty car Monday afternoon.

Police said the crash happened at low speed, and they suspect the woman may have suffered a medical emergency beforehand. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner is working to determine a cause of death.

Police said they were called to Fourth Street near Orange Avenue at about 5:30 p.m. There, they discovered the woman was driving slowly through a parking lot in her 2000 Toyota Corolla when she hit another car at a slow speed. Investigators don’t suspect speed, distracted driving, or impaired driving were factors.

Paramedics took the woman to the hospital where she died, according to police. Authorities have not publicly identified her while they work to notify her family.

Police asked anyone with more information to contact Detective Joseph Johnson at 562-570-7355. Anonymous tips can be sent through Crime Stoppers.
