Officials have doubled a reward from $10,000 to $20,000 for any information leading to the arrest of those who set fires that destroyed multiple businesses following the May 31 protests in Long Beach against police brutality.

One of the blazes was sparked at around 10 p.m. on May 31 at Men’s Suit Outlet, 655 Pine Ave. It destroyed the building and five businesses, causing $5.1 million worth of damage, officials said. Surveillance video shows multiple suspects approaching the Men’s Suit Outlet and throwing incendiary devices known as Molotov cocktails inside the business.

Authorities say video shows the same suspects throwing Molotov cocktails and vandalizing Pacific Travel Insurance and Income Tax, 951 Pine Ave., and Burger King, 127 W. 4th St.

The Long Beach Fire Department and ATF Los Angeles Field Division have partnered up on the investigation. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) contributed the initial $10,000 reward, and the city of Long Beach on Friday contributed another $10,000.

“We are committed to helping businesses that were vandalized to rebuild,” Mayor Robert Garcia said in a statement. “As a City, we will also continue to work on identifying the people responsible for this so that we can take action, and we need the community’s help.”

Police have estimated at least 200 businesses were hit during widespread looting and vandalism the night of May 31.

Video footage of the arson suspects can be found online. Anyone with information on the unidentified suspects or information on the fires listed above is encouraged to contact the Long Beach Fire Department Arson Hotline at 562-570-2582.
