No one was hit in an officer-involved shooting that occurred after a robbery to a person held at gunpoint in North Long Beach on Wednesday evening.

Long Beach Police Department officers were flagged down by a security guard at a business in the 5200 block of Long Beach Blvd at about 5:50PM, police said. The security guard told officers he had just been robbed at gunpoint and alleged that his duty weapon, a gun, was stolen by the suspect.

Officers dispatched a description of the suspect to other officers in the area. Shortly after, an officer found someone matching the description on Mountail View Street, just west of Long Beach Blvd. Additional officers responded to assist and an officer saw the suspect running directly toward him, police said.

As the officer attempted to detain the suspect, an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect was not hit by gunfire, immediately placed himself on the ground to surrender and was taken into custody. The security guard’s gun was found at the scene, as well as a second gun that was hidden in the suspect’s rear waistband.

Police said the suspect was a juvenile with prior arrests for violent crime. He was booked for assault with a deadly weapon, robbery and a weapons possession.
