The Los Angeles County Coroner has identified the young man who was shot and killed at a large party in North Long Beach as 19-year-old Shemar Alexander.
Alexander was at a “large gathering” Thursday night in North Long Beach when police believe he got into a dispute with someone at the party and was shot, police said.
The suspects fled the scene before police got there at about 11:50 p.m. Alexander died later at a local hospital, authorities said.
Police have released few additional details on the case, but they previously said the party of about 50 to 75 people was at a clothing and crystal store called Self Made Designers on Artesia Boulevard. It’s still unclear who is actually responsible for throwing the party, a police spokeswoman said.
It’s also unclear if the business or building owner will be fined for hosting a large gathering in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Long Beach Code Enforcement said they do not have any open complaints at the address.
