Long Beach police officers on patrol heard shots fired shortly after midnight on Tuesday in the area of Atlantic Avenue and Hill Street, but they found no one injured, the department said.

When officers checked the area, they found bullet casings, indicating a shooting had happened, police said. They believe someone fired shots and fled the area before the officers got there, spokesman Brandon Fahey said.

Police don’t know the motive for the shooting and haven’t had any reports of injuries.

They asked that anyone with information regarding the incident contact investigators at 562-570-7370. Anonymous tips may be submitted by calling 1-800-222-8477 or visiting www.lacrimestoppers.org.
