A shooting on the corner of Broadway and Pine Avenue in Downtown early Saturday killed one man and injured another, according to police.
Police responded to the scene of the shooting at 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, where they found one man, identified as 36-year-old Javante Fearence of Long Beach, who had been shot in the upper body and was laying on the sidewalk. According to police an off-duty nurse was rendering help to the victim until Long Beach Fire personnel arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he later died.
The suspect was described only as a male adult, who fled northbound on Pine Avenue on foot, according to authorities.
A second victim suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body and was transported to a local hospital. Police believe the man was an unintended target. The murder is being investigated as possibly gang-related, police said in a press release.
Police believe the shooting was the result of a verbal dispute turned violent, but said the motive is still unknown.
The shooting was the second one in a busy Downtown location in the past month. On June 26, a shooting at the Pike Outlets left three injured.
